In a heartfelt celebration on August 31,National Overdose Awareness Day, the 3rd Judicial District Recovery SupportServices (3JDRS) unveiled two sober living homes in honor of Judge Joyce Ward, a pioneer in Hamblen County’s Recovery Court. These homes provide a safe and supportive environment for women transitioning from substance abuse rehabilitation to independent living.

Named “Ward House” in memory of Judge Ward, the initiative is a testament to her lifelong commitment to helping others.Known for her compassion and leadership, Ward played a pivotal role in establishing Recovery Court to reduce recidivism and support individuals facing addiction.

Sober living homes like these address critical barriers to recovery, including housing, transportation, and employment. They offer a stable environment while participants attend treatment, 12-step programs, and work toward rebuilding their lives. With plans to expand and open a men’s home, the project continues to grow with strong community support.

Local leaders, including Hamblen County MayorBill Brittain and Circuit Court Judge Beth Boniface, praised the collaboration. among governmental entities, non-profits, and faith-based organizations that made these homes a reality. Their efforts reflect the broader mission ofRecovery Court: to empower individuals to overcome addiction and lead healthier, productive lives.

Ward’s legacy of service, determination, and care lives on through this program, which stands as a beacon of hope for those seeking a fresh start.
